Windows thumbnails issue.

For months now I am unable to view thumbnail previews of pictures in File Explorer.
In performance options I have ensure the "Show thumbnails instead of icons" box is ticked.
In folder options, I have unticked the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" box.
In Disk Cleanup, I have deleted everything in the thumbnails box, as Windows advises they are instantly recreated.
However, despite doing all this, I am still left with identical icons instead of being able to view thumbnail images of my pictures.
Not too sure what to do next. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Which version of Windows is it?
In W10, for pictures go to the View tab and choose "Large icons".
Does that give you what you're after?
If not W10 though, not sure as I only have W10 nowFriendly greeting!0 -

Yes Windows 10 version 1809.
Will try what you suggest.
