Have you looked at the price of puppies lately ? A cockapoo costs about £1200 !

The latest fashion accessory. My friend has a "proper" poodle (miniature) and you wouldn't believe the number of people who say "Ooh, a real poodle". (He's just a gorgeous dog). A few years down the line there's no telling what problems these cross-breeds are going to face, then they'll be out of fashion and rescue centres will be full of them.

I'll be amazed if a breed that is the 2nd most popular breed will go out of fashion, and there are some studies that believe cross breeds are healthier than pure breeds.

I don't have a cockerpoo, but I do have a cross breed who is the sweetest dog ever and after 13 years with a pure breed who was aggressive and would bite, its bliss

Sorry this is a bit of a bug bear for me!
Crossing two different breeds of dogs is likely to produce healthier pups if, and only if, both parents are healthy and unrelated. For the best results you want two dogs that are healthy, have had checks done for the most common defects in each respective breed, from breeds that don't tend to develop the same issues, that are of compatible sizes. If you cross two related cockerpoos for example, you're not getting a healthier animal. Likewise if you cross two breeds that are both prone to hip displasia, say, or if you cross two animals that both have health issues of their own.
I hate this current trend for the so-called designer cross breeds because the misinformation is rife and because a shocking number of them are being bred by puppy farmers whose only interest is the money and not the welfare of the animals. A badly crossbred dog from someone who doesn't care about its' welfare will not be healthier than a full pedigree dog from a breeder who does health checks and cares about the animals. Some of these puppy farms are quite despicable, and will cross two dogs and then back-cross those pups back to the parents or grandparents to try and "fix" a desirable trait, thus replicating the main issues you get with pure bred dogs only worse because they're doing it with a smaller selection of animals over a shorter period of time.
I'm sure your dog is lovely and healthy too. I just wanted to say this, not to you specifically, because I keep seeing this information touted around facebook and similar places that crossbreeds are automatically healthier, and it's just not true. It's all down to the breeder.
Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:

When looking for our dog we did go to one property where we weren't able to see the Dad dog and the microchips had mysteriously fallen out !

Needless to say, we gave that one a miss and bought our puppy from a breeder registered with the council, saw both parents and got a health check certificate

The reason we bought our Goldendoodle was because of his temperament.

It is not always possible to see the "dad". In the cases where we have bred from our !!!!!es, we used a stud dog some 40 miles away, but we were able to provide pictures, KC certificates and contact number for the stud dog owner if people did want to check it out further.

However our selling point is family pets from family homes (even though they are from working dog stock) and people can take us as they find us.

The 2nd most popular breed currently. First crossings are generally fine, and I have seen and met some lovely dogs. I am talking further down the line, when these mixes get bred with other mixes - it's often the case that weaknesses become more apparent than strengths, especially in the hands of unscrupulous breeders, and buyers who just see a delightful little bouncy puppy, and do not see further than those adorable eyes just pleading to be taken home.

Please, please, please, if anybody comes across a puppy farm on their hunt for the perfect puppy - report them! These people must be put out of business.
