Car Accident No Damage Tell Insurers?

A couple of months ago I reversed into a car in a multi storey car park. There was no apparent damage to either car but as I didn't have a pen and paper I reported the bump to police on 111 and gave details of both cars.

I'm now starting to wonder whether I should have also reported it to my insurer? And whether it's too late now?

I'm just worried if I don't report it and have a subsequent accident the insurers may void my insurance if they can search the police log I made?

Any advice much appreciated!

I can’t really offer any practical advice. As you have said, there’s a risk it will come back to bite you either way.

Well your insurers cant search the police log and technically you haven't had a reportable accident so one can only guess what the police have recorded. Did you ever get an accident number?

I’m sure most people on here will tell you to report it, but I wouldn’t bother and I suspect in the real world most other people wouldn’t either.

The OP said "There was no apparent damage".


This implies that he was aware that underlying damage might have occurred. He was therefore right to report it, and the police to record it.

You're right. Since (on re-reading) he "reported" it by calling NHS Direct, it's extremely unlikely .

*snort* In the early morning a few days ago I was driving through town and noticed a major set of traffic lights were not working. Thinking it would be rush hour in a short while, I pulled over to report it, and dialled the number I remembered.

You don't tell them, they never find out: Zero difference to premium.
You tell them, they didn't need to know: Zero difference to premium.

You tell them, they did need to know: Small premium increase for a few years.

You don't tell them, they did need to know, they find out: Cancelled policy, large premium increases for a very long time.
