"Soft Hit" on credit report

I want to refinance my student loans but can't see interest rates unless I provide my social on refi websites. I don't want it to affect my credit. Will the check really not show up if it's a "soft" hit?

If so, this is a UK-based site, there aren't likely to be many people who know anything about how things are done over in the US.0
