In the event of the death of a partner, the Bank will freeze joint accounts, does this mean that Direct Debits are not honoured?

They don't freeze joint accounts - one reason that spouses choose joint accounts is to keep continuity of household DDs.

They will freeze a joint account if it was overdrawn when they were informed of the death.0
