Fixing kitchen cabinets to plasterboard

  • Thanks Ruski.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, it turns out one of the walls does not have thermalite but appears to be studwork (?). It's approx 65mm thick and just seems to be plasterboard each side with a cavity.

I'm guessing this cavity is too small for a spring fitting and no good for a corefix. Is something like Gripfit the only option here? Again I'd prefer to not have to put up rails using the studs.

Id go with a french cleat option, the length of the unit.

    Two options:
    Use these : https://www.toolstation.com/hollow-wall-anchor/p58888
Or: as suggested above - cut out the plasterboard at fixing level and screw in a 2x1 batten horizontally. Bit of a pain, but best result. Cut out studs enough so batten sits flush with face of plasterboard.

If it's only 3/8" plasterboard I'd be going for the batten method, 1/2" will be ok with fixings.
