Hi,
Please excuse my stupidity, i am a first time buyer and have recently bought my first television, and i am clueless about this sort of thing with no one to ask. It is a technika l s 32-56 and has 1 RF in and 1 COAX - the house i have just moved into has two promising looking cables coming out of the wall which seem to be twin cable and loosely fit into the coax slot but not RF in.

Are these any good to me ? I am completely clueless and don’t know whether these are intended for a set top box or are direct tv.
If all else fails, how can i get freeview channels on my freebies ready tv? I have a one for all signal box which DOEZ plug in the RF IN however is currently picking up no signal.
Thanks in advance !!

I had a quick look at the manual for that TV (well, an LCD32-56 which might be the one you mean). The coax port is labelled "audio out" so you definitely don't want that one. RF IN is the one for the aerial connection. (I'd also have called that "coax" which is why I wanted to check.)

Have a look at https://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/connectors.html to see if you can identify the cable coming out of the wall, then come back to give more details.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply.
The co ax is labelled (audio out) in brackets your right. As far as i can see from that guide i have two male f plug satellite connectors - it starts as one then feeds into a metal block and then splits into two male twin connectors which are lying loose.

On the other side of the room there is something similar except this one does not split into two but remains one male f plug. It does not fit even slightly into the rf in so i can only assume something else is required ...?

    I’m pretty clueless!

The socket on the TV is for an aerial, your cables are (presumably) connected to a dish.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

In layman’s terms what can i do to pick up a signal ? Does that mean the cables are no good to me?

You either need an aerial to go into the socket on your TV or a set top box to take the input from the dish if you have a working dish. I know no more about satellites & dishes having never used them.

Satellite cables can not be plugged directly into your telly. There are various possibilities.
    1. If you have a standard aerial, find and use the cable for that.
    2. Buy an indoor aerial.
    3. Have an external aerial fitted.
    4. Return the telly and buy a "FreeSat" telly.
    5. Buy a FreeSat box and use that to connect your telly to the satellite.
    6. Take out a Sky subscription and have Sky supply a box.

You might be able to get a satellite box from freecycle - I've got one from there, and have seen a couple of others. (I don't really use it, but since the previous owner left a dish behind, figured I may as well get a tuner while it was on offer.)
