If you’re not prepared, you won’t be able to shop or bank online. So, make sure you know how to be ready for this change.

You already enter your card details when you use it to buy something online, and your logon details when you use the app or Internet Banking. But soon, you’ll need to take another step as well.

It will mean doing one of the three things below:

Well if I was you I'd spend less time on here and more time figuring out how to sort out a solution.
For those with a landline Wifi calling for those with no mobile signal seems to be one solution people are thinking about or just hoping that 2FA to their landline will be an acceptable alternative

It is an EU ruling - part of the payment services directive 2 (PSD2) - so it ain't going away. Everyone from amazon to the banks plus paypal/ebay are going to have to comply.
One of the few EU directives imposed on the UK I actually agree with

I believe there is going to be a lower limit for small purchases of £10 below which it need not be done otherwise for every online transaction a second factor will have to be used to confirm it.

You live in an area covered by Virgin and have no mobile signal?

Nice story, but I struggle to believe it.

I guess you'll have to give up your hobby of buying nuts'n'bolts online and find something else to do.

Try Paypal - it's available everywhere, even on Ebay!

You can create a phone number on Google Voice. Provide this as your number for recieving SMS codes and you can recieve them over WiFi.

However the most secure way is to use the Mobile Banking app.

I still receive this message from Google: "Google Voice is only available in the United States. To use Google Voice, sign up with a US-based phone number."
