Asbestos removal - Essex

Options
we are in a two bedroom bungalow, with 1500 sq feet.

The eaves and soffits are apparently made of asbestos (the sort that is OK if you leave it undisturbed). We want to replace it with plastic soffitts etc (to avoid the burden of constant decorating) but we have been quoted £12500 plus VAT just for removal alone.

Does this seem right to you?

Is that a typo or did you mean to write Twelve thousand 500 pounds?

Yes, unfortunately I did mean £12500 plus VAT.

We are trying other companies as suggested.

That is well over the top.

Just get a quote from the soffits/gutters people - make sure they know its asbestos.

    Should be less than £1000

My local council charges householders £12 per sheet of concrete asbestos (bagged in 1000 gauge polythene etc..) and limited in number. Whatever quote you get will have to reflect those disposal costs which will probably be more for commercial undertakings. But at £12500 they obviously don't want the job!
