Hutton, Brentwood - opinions?

Hi,

We are looking to move to Hutton in Brentwood. Currently own a flat in Loughton but cannot afford to buy a house there so moving further out. Shenfield station would be perfect for our commute.

Can anyone give us some insight into Hutton? We do not know the area at all. Looking at the north Hutton, Rayleigh Road area.

Thank you

Great area - grew up as a kid - like all towns/villages there are good parts and bad parts.

Book some viewings and you will get a feel for the area.

I lived in Brentwood for two years in 2011-2013. Moved there from Highams Park. Bought on the Clements Park estate.

    Then moved to North Chingford.

    Now in Leigh-on-Sea.

Brentwood wasn't my cuppa, but lots love it. As above, visit lots and try to spend a few nights in and around the area. I did prefer Shenfield, but there really wasn't much there. Even less in Hutton. It generally has a good reputation though, but watch that commute if you need to get into London as it can be a bit of a trek to the station.

Talking of commutes, if you do need to do that, I hated it. Was a few years ago now, but it was one of my worst ever. May have improved. MUCH prefer my current commute. In fact, no comparison. At least you have the fast trains (different route) to the Brentwood ones which were usually better.

What is it you're looking for? Can't fault Leigh-on-Sea. Lots of people seem to be moving out from places like North Chingford, Loughton (and nearby Central Line towns).

    Good luck!

I'm biased because I live nearby and so do several friends and relatives, but I am very happy there. The commute into central London is around 20-25 minutes on the fast trains, slower on the all-stops train. Crossrail has been/is being built there too. The town is nothing special but it has enough for everyday needs, just not the big chains (well, there is a Costa). There is an area of Hutton called Hutton Mount where the roads are private and the properties are worth millions so lots of wealthy people also like it. The area is generally good, though of course there are less desirable parts. Our relatives live near Hanging Hill Lane and it is about a 20 minute walk from there to the station, to give you some idea.
