Is Advocate Really Necessary

Hi, I have a small, 4kg, rescue terrier cross and have joined a scheme offered by my vet which includes Advocate and Milpro,
The size I've been given for Advocate is for 4 to 12kg dogs and as my dog is only 4kg there is loads of the liquid in the pipette ( which is a devil to open! ).
To be honest I'd rather not put this chemical on my dog at all because it has many detractors and seems quite a lottery to use it or the alternative Bayer product available.
If I ask my vets advice they'll say it's ok as they have prescribed it

I can't help wondering if vets get comission from Bayer because they have to earn to keep the practice going.
Has anyone on this Forum found anything else to use, and is it really necessary anyway ?

It can come down to owner choice.

Some treat only when there are parasites present.

Others do monthly doses as a prevention and some prefer to do it quarterly.

If you feel the dose is too big then perhaps give 3/4 of the pipette, not the whole lot.

Practice does make perfect in opening the tubes!

In the days when I had dogs, not too long ago, my vet said we should use it. That was because she had dealt with several cases of European lungworm and we walked our dogs in the same areas as the infected dogs. Is European lungworm a problem in your area?

I had thought about asking the vet for the smaller dog version which wouldn't have so much in the pipette. Then as she puts on weight I could use 2 which would still be less than for a 12kg dog.
