Laptop insurance

I am looking for insurance to cover a laptop (replacement value £750) outside the home, either in a travel policy or on home contents insurance. Travel policies all seem to exclude items purchased more than 36 months ago; my home policy does cover but with such a large excess for theft that it is hardly worthwhile. Any suggestions?

So a laptop that is over 3 years old that cost £750 originally?. Seems like it's hardly worth getting an insurance policy for it. I would just self insure so put an amount away each month and then when you need to replace it you should have a lump sum saved up to use.

I would self-insure or if your very keen to get insurance then change your contents cover as it doesn't appear to meet your needs.
  • Hmm... never noticed 36 month rule for travel policy. But travel polices have low limits any way, so the best way is to go with home insurance policy and things away from home.

In my opinion, you shouldn't buy insurance for "stuff", unless you know for a fact that you can't replace the thing yourself, and it is very needed in your day to day life. Remember that insurance companies earn a lot on such small insurances. It would probably be better if you simply saved the money, and then paid from your own pocket - in case that something happens to your laptop :)

    Is this for business use?
For personal use why not get a cheaper iPad or use your phone?

Don't forget the mandatory excess will eat into a replacement as well
