  • In order to inform myself (and other potential readers of this thread) what is the legal responsibility of your water supply company to resolve sewage problems on your own property? Does it depend on whether sewage pipes from neighbouring properties run under your property or connect to your drainage system in some way? (I know water supply pipes are the property owner's responsibility - or at least that's what today's letter from Anglian Water trying to sell me HomeServe cover says - but what about sewage pipes?).

If I'd been in the OP's position, I might have thought to contact AW first, but I might equally contacted DynoRod etc

You may find if your insurance company took on the claim they would claim the payment back from the person who caused the problem.

Does the guy who did it not have insurance? If he does, get him to use it - that's what it's for!

You cannot claim this as accidental damage on your house insurance as this is negligence on the part of the contractor and not an accident, how exactly does one "accidentally" get concrete into one manhole never mind two? sounds like a complete cowboy
