This is a change that has been a long-time overdue in my opinion. It should never have been a universal benefit, available to all, regardless of income. By still being free to those in receipt of Pension Credit, it now targets the most needy, meaning that those on a higher income will have to pay from June 2020. :)
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

    About time.

Can they put the money into BBC sport? it is a joke the number of major events they cover now.

A silly benefit along with winter fuel allowance and free bus passes for some depending on where you live. Can we dump the triple lock yet?

I am not sure if the free bus pass is quite so pointless. Without it many bus services would cease, and it’s no good being able to afford a bus if there are no busses running. Those that use busses tend to be poorer people or can no longer use their own transport.

I qualified for one in May but I won’t be using it much as I prefer to use my bike for local trips, and use my car or the train for longer journeys. As I get more decrepit and can’t turn the peddles anymore then I will be relying on a working bus service more..

My wife qualified for the winter fuel allowance some time ago, like huge numbers of pensioners we don’t need that money, so it gets donated to Winter Comfort or other homeless charities each year.

My DM gets the licence, however she can well afford to pay for it. The £10.00 thing seems pointless.

I use my bus pass more when staying in Glasgow as I am just now. When at my own home there really are no buses which can be of any use.

It seems a tough decision to have had to make, no group will be happy with the outcome.

No issue at all with it going to poor people, just think Alan Sugar shouldn’t get one (and so does Alan Sugar).

I agree, but that is a rather different and wider question.
Scrapping TV licenses would mean either the BBC had to compete for TV adverts with all the other channels, or become a subscription service, or downsize considerably, or probably all three.

Or did you mean that the BBC should be scrapped anyway?
