Economy Energy - Monies owed both sides

Options
Economy Energy were instructed by the Energy Ombudsman to award me £50 credit in October 2018 for shortcomings in Customer Service.. I received a letter stating this would be applied to my account on 31st October 2018. It never was. Economy Energy (Grant Thornton) are now saying that I owe £41 from my final bill...

They are saying that I cannot have the £50 applied to this invoice as the £50 is an unsecured debt and I need to lodge a claim with the administrators for this.

So anyway... my question is... Economy Energy owe me £50 from when they were trading. I owe the administrators £41 from the last bill. From a legal point of view, do I need to pay the £41?

I think you still owe the money.

If you don't pay it then they will instruct debt collectors to recover it from you. There have a lot of forum users on MSE who have had this happen to them and for the sake of £41 do you really want to trash you credit rating history for the next 6 years.

As for the £50 bonus there have also been usere having the same issues as you. For the £50 i think you are going to have to be unsecured creditor( i think thats correct) and put a claim in against EE administrators and you may get back a few pence in the pound.
  • That’s terrible, I would let them take me to court. I had a terrible experience with them also, these guys should be facing jail.
just got an email today from economy energy saying I must pay them over £1600 within 10 days or It will be passed to debt collection. Total bomb shell , I always gave them my readings every month and even phoned to make sure I was paying enough which they said I was I am in total shock.. they advised I must pay and have no rights now because they are in administration and there is no one to complain to.. Ovo said they would have been intouch if I was due them money months ago. ☹️
