iTunes crashing & seeing what app updates are 'good'?

Whenever i open iTunes it crashes. I first noticed it yesterday.
I'm running version 12.6.something IIRC which i know is well out of date but this is because it's the last one i had where you could update apps through iTunes rather than on the device itself.
I've been stung in the past where you download an update only for it to be terrible & you wish you hadn't bothered. Doing it through iTunes you at least had the option of then re-installing the previous version and also before you even updated you could check the update in iTunes to see what score people rated it - to give you an indication as to whether you should bother or not.
So right now i have no possibility of rolling back to a previous app and i can't get any idea whatsoever as to whether an app update is any good or not.
Any idea how to get round this? (No, updating to the latest doesn't fix this - that's why i stayed on this version).

Never had a problem. On pc it is now in the App Store.0

It is? What is?
Anyway i've just found it must be something on my PC end i guess but i don't know what. The last time i used iTunes on my PC it worked fine but now it doesn't.
I have the same version on my laptop (12.6.2) and it worked fine. My apps are on my PC but i used the laptop to put something on my iPod just now and it worked fine.
Any idea of a fix to this?0 -
Uninstall iTunes. Download and install the latest version (64 bit if possible). As a first try.0

And then when you try and install a previous version of iTunes back on it then creates another issue.
So a headache best avoided.
Anyone know if or how i can move an iTunes library and all settings from one machine to another? So basically it's like the 'new' machine is the same as my old machine, as far as iTunes goes - so it'll have all apps there etc?0 -
Never done it myself but these are the Google search results I found.0

Which takes away a key feature that the OP said they used?
Well, yes, but they'll not be using it anyway if it keeps crashing.Anyone know if or how i can move an iTunes library and all settings from one machine to another? So basically it's like the 'new' machine is the same as my old machine, as far as iTunes goes - so it'll have all apps there etc?
Easy peasy, I do it all the time. There's an 'iTunes' folder inside your 'Music' folder (as in, c:\Users\<your name>\Music\iTunes. You just copy and paste that iTunes folder onto a USB storage device, and copy it to the same place on another computer. Depending on how much stuff you have in it, it may be massive. I have no idea how it manages apps, so you're on your own there. The problem is stemming from you using an outdated way to manage your apps. Is there any reason why you can't just do this 'over the air' (ie, without iTunes)?0 -

What do you do when you:
a) update an app over the air and you don't like its new features?
b) update an app over the air to find it is buggy as hell?
c) update an app over the air to find it needs a newer iOS than the one you're on? (ok this one doesn't really apply since i'm on almost the latest but the point still applies).
Because i've been caught out in the past with A&C.0 -

Uninstall it. Find another app or put up with the new features. In this connected world, you're expected to be on the latest version of everything.b) update an app over the air to find it is buggy as hell?
Report the bug, wait for the update. Don't beta test any software.

Update your phone, buy a new phone, move to Android. Same problem will apply there, but I'm not in a position to compare the two.
Bottom line - the rest of the world runs on updates. If you DON'T update you could be risking yourselves and others. Apart from a couple of bad experiences, I think you may be being a bit paranoid, and just keeping things up to date might be less (not zero, I agree!) hassle.0
