Indeed! All it does is reinforce my suspicion that OP prefers looking for a dispute rather than a solution. I see she’s had a go at you now. I sympathise with the plumber.

Everything comes back to the value of the item, which must be close to zero. Whatever resolution is arrived at, the OP has had good use of the item and she isn't entitled to betterment.

Unless she can prove that the plumber acted recklessly, maliciously or without adequate care and skill, she would lose a small claim. Personally, I doubt if she can do that, so it would be far better to accept it's one of those things, do a deal on fitting a new sink and get on with her life.

I once asked a plumber to fix a mixer tap that had got stuck. In his efforts to loosen it it broke. I had to pay for a new set of taps and he fitted them at a reduced rate. TBH I wasn't impressed as he hadn't warned of the risk of this happening, had he said I may well have kept the old taps locked into the tap position. As it was I had to pay out for new taps. But these things happen.

A sink made around the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, cracks during tap replacement almost 30 years later.

Take it on the chin and buy a new sink. Or look at the tip or in farmers field - you may find cows drinking out of a newer model there!
