Hit & Run Claim
Options
Hi Guys
Just after some advice on what I can do if anybody has been in a similar situation or any advice and guidance will be appreciated it.
I’m a private hire license holder and was involved in a hot and run this morning.
Was in stationary traffic signalling to get on to the bus lane which was clear where another vehicle which was speeding decided to driver around me inevitably smashing into the passengers side of my vehicle.
Sadly they did not stop what’s so ever even went through red lights and under/overtook cars to get away as I tried to follow them.
Unfortunately due to their reckless driving could not catch up or get a hold of there number plate details.
I’ve reported it to the police and my insurance people, have even suggested for them to request cctv fotage, I have been given a few options to go down.
Option 1: claim on my insurance and pay £500 excess to get all the damages fixed and if they are able to find the other person they will refund me the £500, if not then I will loose that amount and premium would go up.
Option 2: fix all the damages my self and leave the insurance as it is.
Now I’ve gone with option 2 but have been given a few days to think it over as they won’t initiate repairs till next week which gives me time to cancel as they have said.
Is there any way that I can go about doing this without claiming on my insurance and having my premium going up.
Any help and advice would be highly appreciated as it cost me £3400 for the phv insurance so don’t fancy it going any higher.
Many thanks

With no number plate I don't see who you expect to claim from?
its basically 1 or 2 like everyone else.
If you were signalling to get into the bus lane (is it not for buses?) then were you moving into the lane and got hit by a car already in that lane?
As a follow up. Im surprised anyone driving professionally doesn't have a complement of cameras in the vehicle.
Cost is relatively low and can be a life/premium saver0 -
So you were changing lane but hit a vehicle already in that lane...?
And you don't have a plate for them...?
No way you're claiming off them, then. Even with a plate, they'll claim it was your fault, and it'll end up split at best.
Oh, and don't forget that you'll need to mention this incident to insurers for the next five years, whether a claim's made or not.0 -
Says he was stationary, signalling to change lanes in the text, not that he was changing lanes0
-
As advised above by Adrian you now need to disclose this incident to future insurers whether or not you make a claim
So do dummy quotes online with this as a fault claim and as a no fault incident and see if it's cost effective to pay for your own repairs or make a claim0 -
Surely the first thing to do is find out how much the damage is going to cost to repair, until they've done that they can't make any kind of informed decision as to which way to proceed I.e. option 1 or option 2.0
