Combi Boiler Service, What should be done?

  • We found the British Gas home care service to be a very brief affair – quick visual inspection and a combustion test, and that was that – every time. With our open coal effect gas fire they managed to miss an obviously cracked burner three consecutive years, it still burned fine but we assumed it would be deemed as dangerous and it was eventually condemned and capped off – it was rarely used and basically for decoration but it never triggered any CO alarms.

The local guy we use now takes his time, opens up the burner chamber as well as other various covers and goes mad with a large wire brush and pipe cleaners. Our heat exchanger is also toast, though it’s not leaking – the heat sink/fins are deteriorated meaning it’s less efficient, the whole boiler is being replaced anyway in the coming months.

I would personally avoid the big companies and go for a local independent every time.
