Japanese Toilet

I've just come back from a trip to Japan and was amazed by their toilets that have a built-in bidet function!
Toto seem to be a big brand there in this field, they do seem to be available over here but I rang a couple of dealers and was told the price would be between £1,000 and £10,000!
Anyone got any experience in this area? I've heard German ones are available too. I suspect our electrical and plumbing regulations may make use of such devices more of a challenge than it would be in countries where they are more popular.

There's no problem with the electrics and plumbing here. They need hard-wiring.
They're just expensive things!
I'm told that you can buy them in China for the equivalent of a few hundred pounds, but we're not in China.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The cheaper option to a special toilet is the biobidet. A toilet seat with cleaning/dry function. Still expensive at around £600 though.0

That sounds like a good lead thanks - suspect this might be the German brand I vaguely had in mind.0 -

But almost certainly illegal to fit anywhere near a toilet in the UK https://www.wras.co.uk/approvals/resources_for_applicants/fittings/installation_requirements/irn_r070/0 -
Hmm, my researches have revealed that these bidet toilet devices are almost impossible to fit in this country because of water supply regulations aimed at preventing contamination of the supply in the event of backflow. I bet the suppliers don't go out of their way to tell customers about this.0

Isn't is no different to garden tap and use it to wash a dog's poop? Firstly this is not fitted on a toilet rim, it's like a shower unit, just needs a check valve I guess. They are sold in most pluming stores. Out of curiosity, who gives it approval, like gas safe or electrical one, not sure I ever had a certificate!0 -
We have a shower toilet in our wetroom. We're now on our second one. My son is disabled, and his occupational therapist decided that this would be a way for him to have some independence as he is unable to clean himself. The first one was fitted about 16-17 years ago. It was replaced about four years ago because parts could not be obtained for the model that we had.
Our wetroom is in an extension on the side of our house. There is an electric thingummy through the wall and into the space under the stairs. The toilet is serviced annually. Although we own the house, the council own the toilet. If we ever move, they will remove it and replace it with an ordinary toilet. This is written into the agreement that we have, because my son would need a Closomat in a new house.
This link appears to be the updated version of the Closomat that we have. The flush buttons on either side of the cistern are shorter on this version - ours are the full height of the cistern. My son also has a soft pad that he can press between his hands (when they are not hurting), or under his foot, to flush. As long as the pad is held down, water cleans him. When he lets go, warm air dries him until he stands up.

All Closomat toilets are WRAS approved.0
