How do you list/register a site with search engines

[FONT="]I’ve just set up a blog with blogsome.com and wasn’t sure if I would have to listed it with google before it would be listed in search results, I have just tried a search with the title and it’s come of with ‘we couldn’t find an exacted match’ can anyone give me some pointers?[/FONT]
