Birth Certificate Translation

Good evening,

Hope I’m posting in the right forum but didn’t know where this would be relevant. My son was born in Holland and when applying for a school place and passport, I was told that I needed his birth certificate translated?

I don’t know how to do this, so was hoping somebody would point me in the right direction.

You'll need a certified translation for the passport, I've used this company previously but shop around:

All done by email with the certified translation sent by post.

I have no recent experience of this but about 15 years ago a friend needed certified copies of Hungarian documents translated into English. She did the translation, I straightened out her English version so it had no (or at least fewer) grammatical and spelling errors. The original and translation was then sent to the Hungarian embassy who charged a fee and stamped it as an accurate translation.


OP, would the school be happy with an informal translation? A birth certificate hardly needs translating really as the name and date of birth can be easily seen I would have thought. For the passport application no doubt you will need to jump through whatever hoops they require. I would ask first before you pay for a translation that they may not accept.

I work for a translationcompany and it can all be done, including the certification, for around 50-60 quid. Any translation company will be able to help.

It must be translated by a certified translation company or HMPO won’t accept it
