Possible shipperless gas supply, help!
Hi everyone,
So, I've owned my property for 18 months or so and sub-let to a friend in that time. He's been dealing with all the bills, and 'assumed' gas and electricity both came from SSE on a prepaid meter.
Turns out that SSE only supply electricity to the house. No sign of a gas bill whatsoever! SSE have denied owning the meter.
When trying to find out who the supplier was, I was told that a particular supplier supplied my address. I contacted them, and they confirmed that they do indeed supply gas to my particular address (there are several houses and a large business under the same street number- it's all scattered), but they don't have my particular meter registered (of which I have e-mail confirmation!). It seems like my meter has fallen through the cracks somehow and now I'm being supplied gas without a supplier.
Anyone got any previous experience of this? What next steps should I be taking? I've seen talk of back-billing laws- does that apply to me at all?
Thanks for your help!
George

Hi George
Xoserve (the central data services provider for the gas industry) provide a web self service allowing you to query whom your supplier and also gas transporter (i.e. the distribution network company which actually supplies the gas to your property. In many cases this will be Cadent (formerly National Grid) but could be another distribution network such as SSE, Wales & West Utilities, SGN etc depending on where you live in the country)
The website you need is: https://www.findmysupplier.energy
It's worth noting that Xoserve can only respond to requests from suppliers and not end consumers so you would need to contact your supplier in the first instance to resolve any issues.0 -

Sounds like the seller has been less than honest with you, and if they lied about this, it makes you wonder what else they may have lied about!
You won't normally get any back bill from a PPM, as you are required to pay for the energy before you use it. I don't know who you and/or your friend have been paying for the supply, but unless you registered an account with the supplier, you've probably been using the payment device of the seller ... so have been crediting the sellers account!
(In which case you may get a bill, but should be able to fund that from money already paid, albeit to the wrong account)
Welcome to MSE, btw, and congratulations on making your first post.0
