Christmas 2007 will be made all the more special with the news that The Vicar of Dibley – A Holy Wholly Happy Ending, featuring the final episodes of the long-running series starring Dawn French, will be released for the first time by Universal Pictures on DVD on 26th November 2007 – just in time for those Christmas stockings!

Watched by more than 13 million tv viewers over Christmas and New Year last year, making it the most watched programme over the holiday season, The Vicar of Dibley – A Holy Wholly Happy Ending includes The Handsome Stranger and Vicar in White, along with The Story of The Vicar of Dibley, a feature about how a bunch of sad, mad, village super-idiots and favourite chick-vic, became one of the best-loved sitcoms of all time. God knows and he isn’t saying. With feature interviews with cast and key figures it certainly does the job!

There was not a dry eye in the house on 1st January 2007 when Geraldine Grainger aka the Vicar of Dibley played by the award-winning comedy actress Dawn French, finally got her man! The years of man hunting, comfort eating Chocolate Hob Nobs and devouring gallons of Haggen Daaz, and of course some of the most spectacularly funny comedy moments in the history of television were over - accompanied of course by the usual mishaps associated with Vicar of Dibley.

The brainchild of Richard Curtis (Blackadder, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually), the Vicar of Dibley first aired in 1994. With Dawn French heading the cast as the first female vicar in the small Oxfordshire village of Dibley, the series also features a fantastic supporting cast who make up the rather hapless Parish Council including Gary Waldhorn (David Horton) James James (Hugo Horton), Emma Chambers (Alice Horton), John Bluthal (Frank Pickle), Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott), and Roger Lloyd-Pack (Owen Newitt).

The Handsome Stranger sees the Parish Council painting pictures of naked women; Alice becomes convinced she is descended from Jesus, and Geraldine decides that chocolate is God’s tastiest creation….until she meets Harry (Richard Armitage) that is! The unthinkable happens and Harry proposes to Geraldine and Vicar in White focuses on Geraldine’s attempts to plan her own wedding, which of course ends in chaos, with the bride wearing pyjamas and bridesmaid Alice dressed as the Tenth Doctor with two Daleks!

And just to keep you reaching for the nearest bar of chocolate, Vicar of Dibley – The Ultimate Collection – a DVD Box Set including every Vicar of Dibley episode ever made, The Seasonal Specials, The Specials and A Very Dibley Christmas will be released at the same time.

Over the years the Vicar of Dibley series and specials have seen guest appearances from a host of high profile celebrities who are fans of the series including Johnny Depp, Sting, Rachel Hunter, Sean Bean, Darcey Bussell, Kylie Minogue, Terry Wogan and Sarah, Duchess of York – so why not savour all those classic comedy moments and laugh out loud all over again!

The Vicar of Dibley – A Holy Wholly Happy Ending is available to buy on DVD from November 26!

Thanks to Universal Pictures, Digital Spy is giving FOUR lucky readers the chance to win a copy of the DVD each!
