Can anyone tell me what's wrong with these please.

They are Ailsa Craig growing in growbags. We have several different varieties growing and the all seem to be OK.

Had a look in a 'Be Your Own Vegetable Doctor' and nothing looks like this.

Thanks

Pam

    Yikes
I've had a few Ailsa Craig go a liitle like that in the past - looks like it could be catfacing - if so then it'll be down to the cooler weather after that hot spell

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

They'll still be edible, just a bit ugly
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Fruit like this usually comes from fused flowers

Interesting to know - I feel an experiment coming on (when it stops raining)

Look up tomato megablooms or I think I saw the description deflected tomatoes somewhere. It is abnormal flower resulting in fruit looking a bit wonky. Nothing wrong with the fruit, still edible.

Fasciation occurs in a range of plants and, as you say, there's nothing wrong with the flower and fruit apart from the strange shapes it causes but I don't think that's the reason in the case.

I must say I googled catfacing, didn’t know the the word.
I’ve grown tomatoes for about 12 years now and only had the problem with big/medium varieties of tomatoes, never with cherry ones.
I’m in the Highlands of Scotland where temperatures even in the summer are much lower than in England so I found it interesting that some plants would be affected and some not.

I'll just leave this here then - it's an Ailsa Craig grown in South Yorkshire...
