anti virus software

I dare say this has been covered before but here goes...
I'm using Norton anti virus 2007 on my laptop. Everytime I do a scan it reports everything is okay - no viruses, trojans etc.
As a test I decided to download and run AVG free antivirus and run that. This software picked up 2 viruses straight away - ones which Norton had obviously missed.
Now I'm confused - why would one antivirus pick up problems and Norton doesn't ?

might be a "false positive" you should not run 2 anti Virus at the same timeEx forum ambassador

More likely to be AVG that is wrong. What the files that AVG picked up?It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

I use avg and I would not have norton. Try the kaspersky online scanner- it only finds probs. ,it doesn't fix them so note them all down if it does find any.0

I'd say it was more likely to be false positives as well. But worth keeping in mind that Norton does have a lower detection rate of genuine viruses."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
