This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Today I need to go to the supermarket and I want to have a quick look around the market. We have a farmers market on the first Friday of the month and I have heard that there is a lot of good local produce on sale so I’m going to go and have a mooch around and see if there is anything that takes my fancy.
When I get back I will spend a bit of time on the housework and I have promised my neighbour that I will call in for a cup of tea this afternoon.
I appear to be back to the sleeping problems that I used to have and am wide awake and can’t get back to sleep. I thought I would have a look at the internet for an hour or so and then try and doze for a couple of hours. I think there are too many things worrying me going round in my mind at the moment.
Taff I’m pleased that your dad is better, that must be quite a relief. It was sunny yesterday, but I didn’t make the most of it. I’ve had a bad allergic reaction to the sun cream I used on Sunday so can’t go and sit out until we can work out exactly what it is I’m allergic to and find something I can use. Enjoy Bath and the Kaffe Fassett exhibition.
Gintotmelinda its good news that your husband can drive again.
Gers they gave me either Ensure or Fortisip compact when I was in hospital because of getting more calories in less liquid because I was finding it difficult to get enough calories from any of the other available supplements so hopefully it will help your mum.
Silver-oldie I was pleased to read that you enjoyed a birthday lunch with your husband, you deserved a treat.
Camelot enjoy your weekend away.
Redruby trout and salmon carbonara sounds lovely, I really like seafood so that would be right up my street.
Mehefin sorry to hear about you and the mares, I things soon start to get better for you.
AOD I hope that you are ok.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Good morning all:)
Lovely blue sky again again today its always good for the soul to see the sun. Woke up at 5 this morning but no great surprise after hitting the sack at 8 last night so with a few wake ups still got my required 7 hours
Lots planned today going to do a quick dive to Asda soon for a few bits for the weekend I love a bit of early bird shopping although I do feel guilty buying wine in the shop that early :rotfl: Feel like stressing wont drink it till tomorrow I promise
So I have 2 conference calls and a sales meeting today as well as the pile of paperwork that is not going down at all atm. Could do with some Friday tidying too but that will have to wait. Working tonight at my volunteer role then no doubt will fall into bed shattered again
taff enjoy Bath you lucky lady
Hope everyone else has a lovely day if possible0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the early start HOLLY. Hope you managed to get back to sleep. I can sympathise as it was another rubbish night for me too.
All peaceful at the moment, the 3 girls are all still fast asleep. Half an hour or so and they will be to waken up, feed and water ready for the school run. DD's lovely bf is coming to take them.
I stuck to my frugal little top up shop yesterday and then we detoured to TKMaxx as DD wanted some Pineapple dancewear for a child's birthday present. We were lucky, there was a clearance on and she got what she wanted (and more) at very reasonable prices. I got a lighter weight dressing gown reduced to £7 and a fine cotton loose top for £6.
Bargains!
Today I have the pleasure (not) of the Friday Tidy and really must do the big windows at the front whilst I am at it. I keep putting it off.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them. TAFF enjoy your day out. I am still kicking myself for getting rid of the Kafe Fassett pattern book I had in the 70's. It would all be back in fashion again now! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
What a beautiful morning it is, the sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky. Came home yesterday, put a wash on and it dried whilst I was cutting the grass. Still not very warm but at least it's not raining - yet!
Great news Gintot, you can put all that behind you now.
Enjoy the market Holly.
Have a good weekend taff.
Hope your DM manages to put on some weight Gers, I remember my late OH having those drinks - his language was choice when trying to take them!
Happy Friday everyone, take care. XX0 -
A quickie for GERS. Has your DM been prescribed the smaller Shots. They come in smaller bottles with a higher calorie count. In particular the Calogen one. Bob was prescribed an assortment of these when he had trouble digesting things. x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Good morning, it seems an ok morning here at the moment.
Yesterday wasn't bad either.
Nelski, i've just been reading back, and was sorry to see your Mum is giving you grief again. I can identify with what you're saying. What happens to people when they get old, why are they like this? My own Dad was never pleased or grateful for anything I did, he used to tell me how much he preferred my sister to me!! Sadly, one of the last things he said to me was that I'd "made trouble for him and got him put in hospital". Wherever he is now I hope he knows that wasn't true. Sorry Nelski, didn't mean to make this all about me, but your post struck home to me. Apologies for the outpouring folks!
OL, I'd never heard that before, about once a man and twice a child, so true though.
Gers, I hope something can be done to halt your Mum's weight loss.
Belated birthday wishes to you SO.
TA you have tiny feet! Must be difficult getting shoes sometimes. You got a bargain in the CS though. We've just bought a lovely pushchair from one of our CS's, for Dgs, to keep here. Once he's out of it we'll either give it back, or I might try and sell it on Facebook marketplace.
Usual day here. Yesterday DH cut the hedge, and we tidied the garden.
I'll be visiting a friend tonight for the usual wine and gossip.
Hope everyone has a good day. take care folks xx0 -
Morning folks.
Thanks for all your comments about DM and her weight loss. She tolerates Ensure as it's sweet which she can taste. It's a little 'gloopy' though she understands that drinking it is important. I'll check out the alternative you mentioned TA.
I was planning to go out this morning to return the wheelchair which has only been used once, however the forecast is dreadful even though it's bright and sunny just now. Swathes of heavy rain is coming.
The lamb casserole was made yesterday, such a lot of things chop and saut! and then the blooming washing up! I hate washing dishes. Anyway, it's done and tastes lovely, not sure exactly how much DM will eat of it so it'll keep me going for a three or four days.
Another Friday...I hope it's a happy one for everyone.0 -
Morning everyone,
A warm morning here in Manchester. I think it might have been raining during the night too.
My car's all packed up and ready for my drive back to Glasgow later this afternoon. I've taken a half day and will set off around 1.30ish, giving me plenty of time. As every time, I've a busy weekend, seeing lots of people, tonight I'll be going for drinks with ex-colleagues then visiting my step-brother in his new home. I'm looking forward to it all, it's been a while.
Yesterday I had a phone call scheduled with a client in Miami at 7.30pm our time, so I was in the office 12 hours and had a relatively productive day. Was looking forward to my bed.
Holly - enjoy the market and I hope you get a good sleep tonight.
Nelski - Wow, that's super early to go to bed! Good luck with the paperwork. If you're like me, it's tempting to just burn it haha!0 -
Morning all
Its pouring with rain here and we have weather warnings in place, its going to rain all day with possible flooding !! This is typical as I have today off !! I am off out to Portsmouth with my dd, she is off to Greece next Tuesday and wants to get a last few holiday bits. I want to go to the Ugg outlet and try on some sandals, they are supposed to be very very comfortable which is what I need with my sore trotters.
My Friday tidier will be here today so all clean and lovely by the time I get home will try and get back early afternoon to have a rest with a film on the sofa.
Specky have a good weekend x
Good news Gintot really pleased for you xx
Have good days all xx0 -
You are right SCARLET it is difficult finding size 3's. The cheaper brands think all women should start at a size 4! So it means I am on the look out at the cs for more expensive brands. (My friend has a worse problem she takes a size 2!!) We quite often look at children's shoes, sandals and trainers! I have quite small hands too, just a shame I don't have a small body to match lol!!
The girls were ushered out of the door and into the car half an hour ago. I enjoyed my poached egg on toast in peace and now timewasting with another coffee. The Friday jobs await and so far all I have done is set the dw going!! The sun is shining (for now) but light showers forecast for later."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
