Yes. You will need to agree any overdraft facilities you require with your new bank or building society. Alternatively, they may be able to provide facilities to help you pay off any existing overdraft you may have, subject to their normal lending criteria. If you do not come to an agreement with your new bank you must make separate arrangements to repay your existing overdraft before you switch.

To me this should be expressed more simply as "no, you have to pay off the overdraft first".

Surely the first sentence "You will need to agree any overdraft facilities you require with your new bank or building society." can also be expressed more simply as 'yes, but you need to agree it first'.

I'm sure the wording could be improved in a number of ways, but ultimately it's probably a bit of a moot point as I suspect that OP (as with others in a similar situation) is unlikely to have read the FAQs in the first place, as this would have prompted some sort of action to secure funding to pay off the overdraft (or they'd have decided not to proceed with the switch)!
