If it's anything like as bad as the previous PVRs from Aldi I'd avoid like the plague.

You're better off getting a Humax 9200 from Comet for £150 and copying the files to your PC if you want to keep them.

The Humax is no longer £150 at Comet but the black version can be had from John Lewis at £159 with the appropriate voucher code.

However, as far as I know, this is the ONLY twin tuner HD DVD recorder.... and if it works would be an absolute steal at £150. The key is 'if it works'. A decent HD DVD recorder with freeview is well over £200 .

Would I need a new digital aerial for this, my analogue reception is very poor.

I use sky digital at the moment but would love to save myself the subscription. I only ever record terrestial tv onto skyplus.

If you are interested in Setanta on freeview the Thomson 1630 160GB PVR deal from Argos is fairly good. You get a twin tuner PVR with in built CAM, setanta membership and first month free for £79.99. (Add both items to your argos basket and the setanta sports starter pack appears for free)

If you were wanting to do the same with a Humax it would cost you a minimum of:

    Humax £160
    CAM £30
    Setanta joining fee £10
    First month £10
    Total = £210

And before I am flamed the Humax is worth the extra money as it is one of the best PVR's out there and the Thomson still has a few issues (like all PVR's to various degrees including the Humax).

However still a good deal if you also want setanta.

PS I would be interested in how good or reliable is the Samsung machine in the original deal as there is very little around.
    Cheers,

I nearly ordered another Humax today from Comet but that offer just expired. I read on hotudeals that the John Lewis one as said about is £159. The Humax 9200 really is all that one can hope for its brill

I might get my daughter one fro Christmas she has a Humax 8000T but she wants a twin tuner for all the craptv (reality shows) programs she likes

Gambler i have a Inverto twin tuner freeview £50 from Boots on a special offer and got no signal from it using the main tv but upstairs on the portable tv using the same aerial i get lots of freeview channels .
So no i dont think it will pick up any channels from your tv if your signal is not good.

Does anyone know if it has twin digital tuners or one digital and one analogue. I've called Tevion , but, they can't help without a model number.

Any idea the cost of having a new digital aerial installed?
