What does pro rata mean + Need help working out what hourly rate

My girlfriend have started a part time job so she's trying to find out what pro rata means so she can find out what she earns a year so she can phone working tax credit. She was given a piece of paper saying £17,711 Pro Rata, 7.5 hours per week/38 weeks per year. 0.15% £9.18 per hour then £9.74 per hour.

Pro rata means the rate against a full time rate.

    I get it at £67.22 a week.
  • It actually depends on which one the employer is using to work it out?

    There all different.

Serves me right for not reading the post properly I thought it was against a 38 hour standard week.

What Mark means is that is the standard week 37.5 hrs, 40 hrs, etc. It make a difference.

For example If a salary was £24,000 per year Pro-rata but you only worked 9 months your actual salary would be £18,000.

Simple example, if a full time position paid £24000 pa, based on a 40 hour week but you were part time only working 20 hours per week, your pro rata salary would be £12000.

When my full time colleagues comment on the perks of being part time...they seem to forget that salary is proportionally reduced too!!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    Worth remembering though that...

Someone on £12000 pays no tax
Someone on £24000 actually earns 21600

So in essence their time is worth slightly less

    Definitely £67.22 per week (£17,711 * (7.5/38)) is £3495.59 per annum. Or £291.30 per month / £67.23 PW.

Not enough info in that to work anything out.

If it say £9.18ph use that.

    When does £9.47 kick in.?
