Advice on automatic insurance

Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on my current situation. Thank you
I purchased a smartphone back in 2016 from an online website, I have now only just noticed 3 years later they automatically enrolled me into insurance for the phone. I did not agree to this and was sent no paperwork like emails or letters to let me know this had been done.
The reason it has taken me so long to notice I have had money coming out of my account every month is because right after I purchased the phone I took out insurance myself from another company which was the same price as the one they had enrolled me in so I never noticed the payment coming out as it was pretty small and the same. It also wasn't a direct debit just a recurring payment.
I went back and checked all my emails and the invoice from the company does not mention any insurance the only thing I could find was a small piece of text in the order conformation saying 3months free insurance included that's it. I contacted the insurance company and they said I would have ticked a box online which I did not and they hadn't sent me any paperwork because the website had not supplied them with my email so I now 3years later have my policy paperwork for a policy I did not know I had.
Can anyone give me some advice on where I can go from here, It would be nice to have my money back for something I didn't agree to but Is it going to be seen as my fault that I didn't notice the payment which I feel rather stupid about or that there was some box ticked that I should have seen?? I have never had insurance without receiving atleast an email about the policy...

Maybe you were supposed to cancel after the free months if you didn't want to start paying??
No matter, whenever you are not happy with your insurance company the route to go down is a complaint in line with their complaints procedure
Then if you are not happy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you0 -
Hi Thanks
Yes Im already going down this route, I have been an online shopper most of my life so It would be very unlike me to miss taking out insurance on a phone unless it was a well hidden button or some sort of error. The fact that makes me think it was a mistake on there end is I had virtually no information regarding this insurance that had been taken out besides one small line of text in my order confirmation that said includes 3months of free insurance. Even when I go onto there website and view my order theres no mention of insurance on there order sheet just the phone. Why would it be so hidden if I had actually chosen to take it out... also the fact that the actual insurer didn't even have my details to contact me on seems very strange. I was on this unknown insurer for over 3years never had a renewal letter a payment plan a policy letter.. nothing0
