I moved from Scottish Power in 2013 and I have asked them to check if there was any unpaid credit on the account at that time. They have replied asking me to pay £10 for a Subject Access Request. Surely that is a misuse of the GDPR?
Thanks Lynne

Can the organisation charge a fee for this?
A copy of your personal data should be provided free. An organisation may charge for additional copies. It can only charge a fee if it thinks the request is ‘manifestly unfounded or excessive’. If so, it may ask for a reasonable fee for administrative costs associated with the request.

So they shouldn't be charging unless your request is "manifestly unfounded or excessive" or if they can argue it is an additional copy as you have been given this information at the time (2013).

There is no mention on their website of a £10 charge "to reunite former customers with credit balances that have not been refunded to them."

I suggest you follow the procedure given on that webpage. No mention of making a Subject Access Request.

I have carefully checked their privacy policy, and it would appear there would be no guarantee that the supplier still holds any records from over 6 years ago
If you wish to make a request to uncover what personal information, if any, they hold on you, the privacy policy tells you how and makes no mention of any fee for such a request.
