O/S Daily Thursday 6th June 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Bright sunny start to the day, hope to be able to get washing line dried.

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, tonight will be roast chicken portions with mash, veg and gravy.

Work yesterday was ok, busy in parts but we were short staffed again but had to get another colleague diverted from another office - just as well we weren't manic busy! I'm now on days' off until Monday.

So on to today I have the normal "to do" list - so will just work my way through getting done what's needed.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

    Thanks for the start nmlc.

Hope you and the bruisemare get well soon Mehefin, sounds rotten for both of you.

It rained all night again, at least I don't have to water the plants either here or the allotment. It stopped long enough for me to wash the downstairs windows last night so at least I can see the rain clearly now!

Didn't get to yoga, forgot it was the school show. There's always next time. Spoke to my old Auntie and I'm going down there tomorrow after work for the weekend, will also meet up with nice cousin and family, horrible cousin away so that's good.

Have a happy Thursday, take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's nice to see the sun shining this morning after yesterday's decidedly chilly and cloudy day. Fortunately there was no rain.

I had a very pleasant day out with my friend yesterday. We settled on the bus to Skipton and had the usual trawl of the cs and market stalls. I zoomed in on a pair of Hotter sandals in the Mind cs. Like new for £5. Size 3's are few and far between so I was chuffed I spotted them. Plus 2 more books that I really didn't need! We enjoyed a large beer battered cod, chips and peas for lunch, accompanied by a bottle of wine. And very nice it was.

Today is shopping day and I don't need much at all. Just some fruit, veg and dairy stuff. DD collecting me on her way to school with the 2 youngest. Our nearest Lidl was miles away but a new one has opened in the next little town along so we may try that for a change. We have given it a couple of weeks for the initial throngs to try it die down a bit.

All 3 DGDs are here for late tea and sleepover. The usual Thursday fix has been requested so the Bolognese is already simmering away.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need/want them. Thinking of you all, plus the absentees. Take care all xx

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

know how you feel regarding your Mum. I think a lot of my feelings at the moment are not only the loss of Mum but I always hoped she would appreciate what I tried to do and maybe a thank you, some thing that can never happen now.

Had a lovely birthday meal with my lovey DH yesterday, sadly no birthday cake.

Today the weather looks sunny so I think we might have a walk.

    Take care all
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

    Morning folks.

Yesterday was fine, mostly. The rehab nurse weighed DM who is now down to 8st 3lb (50kg) so that's not wonderful. The nurse then phoned the Speech & Language therapist who came straight out. She'll arrange a 'swallowing throat X-ray'. Later in the evening the GP came out too. Despite DM's efforts the GP told her firmly that all the shaking of her legs and hands was not Parkinson's but just that she's very weak!

A good outcome was that he's prescribed the Ensure Compact bottles rather than the powder as there's more calories in less liquid.

I made the leek and potato soup with lots of leeks so DM had a bowl of that for lunch. Today I'll make the lamb casserole.

This morning I'm going into town. I had to order more contact lenses as I've still not been able to get back home, so will collect them from the opticians and have a wander around.

Now it's time to rise and shine. Hugs to those struggling and a happy Thursday to everyone.

    Good morning :)

Sun is cracking the flags today always nice to wake up to. Slept well although the couple of wines certainly helped.

My overseeing a new guy at the volunteer work ended up me running it as sadly he was a no show seems to some volunteering roles can be picked up and dropped as other things get in the way which of course is true but letting people down like he did is not on This week I will be doing 3 sessions (evenings) to cover a meal out, a desire for a night off doing nothing and my own session tomorrow, not what I signed up for.

No idea whats on the menu today but the chilli was so good last night drowned in Mozzarella :D

Thanks for the mother support yesterday its always helpful I know I should forgive her inability to ever be thoughtful which of course she loses when in a pub with a large wine in front of her.

SO I totally get that its the total selfishness that irks me and will be my lasting memory of her whatever happens.
nanny its fired unpacked and ready for the cliff :rotfl: I was sure mum had got better too but seems they both have that personality and no real change can be expected.
Gers I have neuropathy and it sometimes affects my ability to eat so when I was in hospital with it they had some god awful powder that you stir into your meals which turned everything to nasty tasting mush. I chose to not bother in the end small amounts of normal food was edible this stuff not. Bear that in mind if she is prescribed the evil powder :D

Hope everyone has a lovely sunny day :)

No powder to stir into meals - just powder to make into a drink. Now moving back to the pre-made stuff which is better. It only comes in strawberry, vanilla or banana flavours ( I caught a glimpse of a coffee flavour one once but never again) which DM can tolerate.

Now I'm sitting wrapped in my towel hoping to drip dry! :rotfl:

Morning all! Father is better thank you, think it was shock that rpoved worse, I think he's realising that lack of energy can affect you adversely physically. There's nothing really wrong with except old age with the usual aches and pains, but he's not eating very well thanks to an injection he's on but he hadn't connected the two.
Did a fair bit of physical stuff yesterday which resulted in a lot of aches and creakiness, but am anticpating more of the same today. Have a lot of potting on to finish because I will keep buying plants..Damn those Garden Centers and their offers...
DId a round robin of shops yesterday too, BM bargains for stones, B&Q for trays [big trays for the GH], Morrisons for flower buckets and veg while I was there and the GC for compost. Not going anywhere today.
Tomorrow I'm going to the American Museum in Bath with a friend to see the Kafe Fasset exhibition, charging up my phone in readiness for lots of pictures.
Also came away pleased from fat club. I know some people struggle with losing weight but at the moment, my head is in the game so not a problem.

Oh Nelski, what a pain. Hopefully you're not so angry today...Personally, I would start inventing reasons why I couldn't take her shopping, especially as she can now do it online. It's really not nice to go out of your way for someone who doesn't appreciate it, no matter who they are. And I do know there are people who are always going to be disappointed with someone else's perceived attention, so better not to engage with them at all. SO, it's going to be a struggle because you feel nappreciated and now you have no way to express that. What about writing it down and burning it? That way, it'll get there,, up or down for those inclined to think of it that way :) mehefin, hugs and spoons to you too. AOD, thinking of you. dumpling, did the nurse come out? Holly, is it sunny yet?

    Tear ahead Thurday!

Oh I wish but no totally incapable (in her mind) of doing anything herself bar dusting and hoovering and watching tv on the couch :D She doesn't have a clue with computers or even mobiles in her mind she is dependant on me which is not true she's a healthy active intelligent misery who wont do anything for herself. Anger is pointless so I rant to my friends on here but mostly just sad about the future.

Sounds like you're back to normal busy self which is great. Morrisons do fab plants too really good for the pretty ones in pots and baskets :) Have a lovely day in Bath its a beautiful city

Morning all from a sunny mefefinland

You have to feel sorry for these poor girls. Scoobymare is out on the grass doing her best to look miserable whilst scoffing for Wales. She is missing her mate - honest.
Bruisemare is stuck inside on hard tack and feeling very sorry for herself. Farrier hopefully will get the special shoes today and we can start sorting her out. Weather tomorrow looks horrendous so I hope he can do something today.
I'm still doing my Steptoe senior impressions!!
Think the only happy chappy is Sally abrader who has the choice of settees and loves helping to muck out in the way that only Labradors can lol
NelskiSomehow I find it difficult to think that you had trouble eating!

had to switch the tv off after watching a bit of the DDay75 . Just got so choked up seeing all these old boys and the dignity in which they portrayed their experiences.
Hugs and spoons as always to those who are in need
