Onion Sets ... Too Late??

I have just realised I have forgotten to plant my onion sets.
Is it too late now?

Our local Aldi still has packets of onion and shallot sets that have been in there for months.
Anyway, if you have some spare space, I'd be tempted to chuck them in, and if they grow, treat them almost like giant spring onions, chop them up and use them "in the green" as it were. They're very likely to bolt and flower, but it might be fun to see what happens.0
