Hello..... We have 2 electricity meters in our church. 1 of them hasn’t used any electricity since at least 2010, i can’t get any information before that as British Gas have said they don’t hold records back to 2003 for this meter, when we changed to them from NPower.
We are being charged a Standing Charge, if we De-energise the meter not in use, will we still charged a Standing Charge ? I have conflicting advice from British Gas regards De-Energising.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

As a business tarrif it is entirely down to what you negotiate.
Some comapnies are more strict in what they will do unless you have 1000s of meters with them.0 -

One farmer wanted to stop this and have the meters removed but the meter fitters would not work off a height of 12 ft or so where the meters were positioned
I would expect then that to stop the daily charges you would have to get the meters removed.
BG Business will help you if you contact them.0 -
Years back I remember reading meters in an office block where there were about 10-15 meters all along a wall in one room. 3 of the meters had been disconnected and removed from the wall, but left lying on the floor. There was a clear line in the dusty glass where the reading was displayed on the three of them.
Yes, sure enough, we were still reading them as they still appeared on our systems to be read along with the live meters, and we duly punched them in every time (got to keep those access rates up!). No doubt the landlord of the building was still being billed the daily standing charge!
So this makes me think that Houbara's advice is spot on, you'll need to get BG to disconnect and remove the meters to avoid charges.0 -

Assuming Church of England - join their Energy Basket through Parish Buying - then you should be able to use the CofE buying power to resolve this.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
