New Dual Fuel Range cooker from Curry's - Faulty

Options
Hi,
I have recently bought a new cooker from Curry's - delivered on 16th May.
I did not buy Curry's installation as I needed new gas-pipe work put in and this is beyond their scope. They only install 'like for like'.

So I paid for a 'local' gas engineer to install it ( 70 mile round trip for him. I live in rural Scotland.) Once installed he tested it - only to discover one of the knobs is faulty. He inspected it and said the spindle inside the knob is bent. This makes it stiff to turn, and more importantly does not pop out again as it should to cut off the gas flow in the event of the flame going out. He recommended a Guarantee call.

Following the directions in the manual, I phoned the manufacturer first, who after some debating decided that the cooker needs to be replaced. They said Curry's would do this, and gave me a code to pass onto Curry's.

So, I finally spoke with a human at Curry's after an infuriating call with a robot that put me back through to the manufacturer.

Mr Curry's said they could deliver a replacement cooker next week and would disconnect and take away the faulty one, but they will not install the new one. However I am cross that they are expecting me to fork out to have it installed again, when I am only getting it replaced because of a fault - and a safety issue at that.

What are my rights here? Do they have any obligation towards installation costs or am I wasting my time?

I would insist that they do the re-installation, given that the job is now a like-for-like one and within their scope. Write them a letter explaining that's what you want and that if they decline, you will appoint your gas fitter and pass on the charge to them.
