Thomas Cook Direct Debit

My family and I booked a holiday with Thomas Cook and a due to travel in July. We booked the holiday on 3rd August 2018 but due to a change in circumstances we had to amend the destinat8in from Hurghada to Cyprus and the date changed and price was increased. We amended the holiday on 28th August 2018. I was advised at the time of amendment the price had increased & the direct debit would be increased which it didn’t!! I received an email to advise me the direct debit subscription has ended and then I was advised on Sunday that there was a balance due of £1612.99. I phoned Thomas Cook and they aren’t taking responsibility for this and have advised we have to pay it!
Has anyone came across this before and if so, is this right we are liable? Thanks

First off when TC said the price had gone up and your DD will aslo rise and you said the DD never whent up when it was taken from your bank why did you not call them asap to adjust the DD?
2nd if you still want to on holiday then you will have to pay this money to TC.
Not sure what happens if you decide you don't want to pay them anymore money.
All the above should be in the info TC sent you by email/post and the T&C's should be there somewhere, if not it will be on their website.0 -

did you contact them when you noticed the direct debit had not increased as it should have? (9 months ago)
Do you disagree that the money is due to complete the payment? (have you added up all the payments made to date v's the total?)0 -
If its a balance you agreed to pay when you changed the holiday, you have to pay it. The fact you went months without notifying them the DD amount was wrong is totally irrelevant.0

Is the £1612.99 the amount that the holiday price increased by when it was amended on 28th August 2018?0

As we have all learned recently, Thomas Cooks don't seem to be very good with money, maybe this is one of the reasons! However, if you knew the total cost and agree you owe what they claim, then you still have to pay. If you cancel now you will almost certainly be hit with cancellation charges and not get back at least some of what you have already paid. It certainly isn't a good sign of the state of the business if they themselves are not collecting what is due and you have every right to complain that it is at least partially their own fault but that won't enable you to have a discounted holiday0

When you changed the holiday over and the new DD was discussed the member of staff should have filled a formstack in to amend the cost. It looks like it was human error or there may have been a system issue. When you realised the DD hadn't increased why didn't you tell them so it could be corrected.
You do owe them the money so if you don't pay they will cancel your holiday and you won't get a refund due to it being in cancellation. Presumably you put the extra payment to one side each month for when they caught up with you. It is annoying but you did know the DD was wrong.0 -
No different to paying your electric company £50 per month for a year but you have used far too much electric and they send you bill at the end of the year for an extra £200.
OP - pay it or you get no holiday.0 -
I love it when newbies post and never come back because they dont get the answer they want.0
