Gift aid

Why do some places charge MORE for gift-aid? The National Trust insist that it is HMRC that say that they HAVE to charge more. However, why then do other places not charge more if you want to gift-aid? I think the NT are pulling a fast one and I really resent it. After all if we gift-aid they are getting more money for what we pay so why do we pay MORE?
I would be really grateful if someone could answer this as I am so annoyed I now refuse to go to NT properties as I feel they are ripping us off! If what they say is not true how can a huge organisation like them get away with it?

I don't totally understand your question although I assume it's to do with this:
https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/gift-aid-on-entry
so in order to get the gift aid on the whole amount there must be an extra donation of 10% or more.
Otherwise it is just considered standard entry and they cannot claim gift aid on a £10 entry.
So if you really resent it feel free to refuse to go to the properties, or just go and pay the standard entry price.0 -
I believe the Gift Aid rules are behind some places offering tickets that allow you to return during the following year rather than selling single visit tickets. This means they can ask everyone to Gift Aid with no extra payment being asked for.
In practice only a small proportion of local people are going to visit for a second time.0 -
Don't forget that by Gift-Aiding you actually remove money from central government that would otherwise be spent on welfare/ the NHS/ schools/ defence etc.
Simon Evans did a Goes To Market programme on Radio 4 about tax, and this was raised. Certainly opened my eyes to the negative impacts of Gift-Aid.They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -

If it's not going to defence I'd be delighted!
Me too, but I'd like there to be more the NHS and schools. There were more things on the list of where the tax income goes, but those were close to the top. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0
