Hot water tank - efficient use?

    The duration isn't that critical because you should have a thermostat on the hot water tank that will stop calling for heat from the boiler once the water reaches the set temperature. For that reason I'd have it set to come on for a 1-2 hours covering the time when everyone gets up and showers. That way after the last shower it gets topped up for the day.

    On the whole combi vs tank debate, when I was in a flat the tank system's boiler died and was replaced with a combi. Whilst gas consumption went down, water consumption doubled as we spent our lives waiting for hot water to appear, so overall bills ended up higher.

    I tend to go for 45 mins. It will cut of earlier than that when hot.

    When people are having showers in morning or whatever you may want it on longer so the 2nd person don’t run out.
