Oh Manxman life hasn’t happened if it hasn’t been recorded by an over the top event .
Pregnancy reveal parties
Big gender reveal events when you know the sex of baby from scan
Holding a baby shower in a hotel or other venue
Cakes costing hundreds for children’s birthdays
Graduation from nursery
Infant school
Perfect weddings
Mimi moons
Baby moons
And on and on it goes
The odd thing is people don’t seem to be any happier now than they used to be .
Can I add (I've witnessed this):
Two hen/stag do's, one abroad and one for those who cannot make it.
Pre-wedding photo shoot
After wedding reunion get together for dinner

How would I play it?
I'd go to work and work my full shift as normal. Probably feeling a bit sad to be missing my child's last day at school, but understanding that my boss can't set a precedent for granting time off for spurious reasons. I'd reassure myself that I'd given it my best shot, and that my child may or may not even notice my absence. If I really couldn't reconcile myself to this, then I'd resign from my job and focus on being a full time parent.0 -
I remember only one school leaving day as meaning anything and that was the very last one. No-one there, no send-off, just a strange feeling that the only part of my life if which I had any memory was ending.
It felt appropriate, as the adult world can be a hard place, and a party would have felt completely wrong.0 -

I remember watching American films in the 70s when I was a teenager and wondering what a "Prom" was. (The only one I knew then was Douglas promenade).
When I found out I thought "Well - British teenagers virtually created punk on their own - can't see Proms catching on".
What happened? :shocked:0 -
Only when leaving senior school (50 yrs ago) and heading to uni or work, was there a "ceremony". Final assembly of school year, all pupils in the hall (NO PARENTS!) head and teachers facing on the stage. All the leavers went up on the stage individually and shook the headmaster's hand to the cheers and applause of the pupils.
And that was it!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
