Isn't getting a student to record the biggest day of your life a bit risky though?

Cheap would be my guess. Although there's no reason why a student couldn't do a good job they may well not have a track record already in wedding photography so it's certainly a risk.

Unfortunately we dont all have thousands of pounds to spend on a photographer for a day. Hence asking a student. Student or not I do not deserve the treatment I have received, I think some people are missing the point to my original post. So if you havent got any helpful advice, maybe instead of judging me, just dont comment? Yes I made a mistake to trust the man... but I thought I might have been helping a student get some experience whilst getting a good deal on the photography.

No need to get touchy about it. You asked where you stood and you've had advice and views. I can't see that anyone's judging you - the use of a student photographer and consequently cheaper pricing than usual is a relevant part of the situation and in any action you take.
