Nationwide Refer A Friend Annoying !!!

I was with Nationwide and had a current account until last Sept when I switched to First Direct so I could bank at the village post office easily where I work.. I still have a Saving Acc and Credit Card with Nationwide and so have tried to Refer A Friend (my fiance in this case) to Nationwide.

Nationwide allowed me to apply and send the email to him with the link to apply for a Current Acc with Nationwide and he did and got accepted. He is moving from a joint Santander Acc with myself to a single Nationwide acc. We haven't split up and don't intend to.

He is having real problems with Nationwide regarding the 7 day Switch. Basically absolutely no warning that it wouldn't work before he applied for the Nationwide Acc. The DD's can't be moved automatically because of the joint to single thing. The customer service from Nationwide has been cr*p with no one giving a straight answer , just there was an error with the Switch and has left him in limbo with DD's going out of Santander and weekly wage into Nationwide.

Does anyone know if I remove my name from the Santander joint account thus making it a single account (we have an appointment in branch on saturday) if he can call up Nationwide and do the 7 day Switch and get the £200.

Thanks for the reading x

The answer to your question is yes (but you'll probably have to refer him again using a different code...check with Nationwide).

However, I've just started a dummy switch into my Nationwide FlexAccount and as soon as I said it was a joint account I got the following message...

"We're sorry but you cannot switch between your existing joint account and a sole FlexAccount"

Maybe your fiance accidentally clicked "sole"?

They also tell you that joint to sole is not possible in the FAQ. Maybe you didn't read the FAQ?

And finally, on the "before you start" page they say...

"Please note: You won't be able to switch from a joint account to a sole account". Maybe you both missed that?

As YorkshireBoy says, switching from joint to single isn't normally possible. So you're trying to do the impossible. The only way is to start again, switching single to single.
