I echo what others have said, the situation with the dogs isn’t ideal and being a dog owner myself (with several health conditions) she doesn’t get the attention she always needs from me. Again as previously mentioned you will not be able to obtain rented accommodation with them either. Is your council tax spread over 12 months instead of 10? Your electric costs etc are incredibly high, I would definitely be shopping around to cut that down. Your food bill is also somewhere I can see savings being made, we are a family of 2 adults and 2 children and £220 covers the month including toiletries etc. Meal planning, using left overs and batch cooking is they key to helping this happen although I can appreciate your disability might hinder some of this.0

Think you need to make tough decisions here. I'm not sure I'd be happy with contributions to your benefits when you have six dogs.
So this suggests to me, Zippy that the easiest way you can find a new home to rent would be to get rid of your cat, but you are not doing this. Probably as like most pet owners, you consider your cat as part of your family and you make decisions on your future without the default setting of getting rid of them.
I'm not sure I'd be happy contributing to your state pension, or the state funded education you enjoyed, or the cost of any treatment you received on the NHS, or...…….
OP, I don't have much to offer in way of decent advice but i wish you well with however you get through this. It's a shame about the PIP, maybe one day we will stop demonising the most vunerable in our society.0 -
Having 6 dogs is a lot and is it fair on them if you work full time. It’s not because they are left alone during the day. I wouldn’t do that for one dog never mind 6.
Your grocery bill is high for 1 person. I can spend about £80 a month on mine for one person and that also feed my boyfriend when he comes over . That so a healthy diet as well.
Your electricity is high I’m on electric only and don’t pay that muchMortgage free wannabe

I went to private school so that argument is not convincing.
You do have to make tough choices though in the OPs situation. I've sold and relinquished things which mean a lot to me to put myself in a better position.

As a LL, yes, that would be easiest way of getting into my property. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

This one always gets me a bit - if someone was having problems finding accommodation because they have one small baby, would you also be alluding to the fact that they should consider putting that child up for adoption? An animal - whether that be a dog, cat, rabbit or horse, DOES become part of the family, and the relatively low cost expenditure for a single pet -v- the extremely well documented mental health benefits is for most an extremely small price to pay.badgerhead wrote: »

It's alright - thankfully we don't get a choice to support those we feel are worthy and not those who we pass judgement on. Probably a good job otherwise the vast number of animal lovers on here would probably be rushing to the HMRC site and taking the "untick" option against you for contributions towards YOUR NHS costs, pension etc, too!
As I said before I DO think 6 dogs is too many however - that would be the same regardless of the OP's financial position though, and to be honest I'd feel the same if it was six children, too,. Time becomes at too much of a premium and inevitably those that are the "easier" ones get neglected in favour of the more challenging individuals.
There's lots of good points being made and support being offered here for the OP - hopefully she will return.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The problem lies in the fact that you are mistaking that a LL will or will not rent due to an animal, with the fact that animals are part of the family. Emotions are clouding a business transaction. But if, as part of their family, someone has an animal, that is a consideration to be taken into account when planning that transaction. There are also some LL's who will not willingly let to a person with a small baby - my original point/question still stands.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

As we have been looking at many properties over the past 6 weeks, it is staggering the amount of LLs who have a complete zero tolerance to any pets, without even bothering to speak to prospective tenants. The person posting about mental health is spot on and research shows that people with pets will stay in the tenancy for a much longer period than someone who doesn't have a pet.Savings as of April 2023 Savings account - £26460.50(14474.88)Current account - £2140.24(4576.79)Total - £28600.74(19051.67) £1010 (£65pm CS/BS) £250 CS/BS/JS0

Just to confirm I was supporting the OP. I also do not like judgements placed on worthiness to access the welfare state. I'm also an animal lover0
