Hotel Sold and shut down

Hi
looking for some general advice and where we stand before i get the runaround on the phone.
i had booked a hotel through ba hotel partner scheme for orlando at christmas using avoid points and cash.
By a stroke of good fortune we found out that the hotel has been sold to a consortium and its officially closed its doors.
We haven't received any correspondence from either BA or the former hotel group to notify us of anything like this has happened.
Should BA not have been in touch to alert us to this ?, and will it be a straight case of being refunded and trying to get a new hotel or will there be some kind of charge if they say we are cancelling the booking.
in my mind it seems rather straight forward but that sometimes doesn't happen.
thanks for any advice in advance

Have you asked BA?0

If the hotel has closed and will no longer be accepting guests then BA will contact you in due course and inform you of an alternative.
No skulduggery happening, but it will likely take a little time for them to view options and source alternatives. In their eyes Christmas is a long way off.
The alternative should be in the same location/resort and be of the same or of a higher rating comparison. There should be no additional charge made to you.
If you dislike the alternative then by all means negotiate other options, perhaps selecting something else from their website inventory. They may however charge you for the difference in cost if a different hotel to the new one they offer.
Can you post the hotel which is closed or closing?
As post above state, perhaps call BAH.0 -

Thanks very much for your reply, I am going to contact BA regards hotel but as I was totally clueless as to what may happen I've held of just to find out from other people what could be the outcome.
And tbh your reply has put my mind at rest as I had more the thought that they would just cancel booking and we would have to find another hotel.
The hotel apparently closed on the 9th or 10th of April this year.
It was the Wyndham on Canada avenue that has closed been taken over by a investment consortium who also bought movie land hotel.0 -
Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, Canada Avenue?0

From what the OP has written, I am guessing that this isn't a BA Holidays booking, but a booking of a hotel through BA.com using Avios+Cash. I do this myself, and I would expect the booking to just be cancelled (at no cost to you) rather than for them to provide you with an alternative - this is the simpler route as well: you get to choose where you'd rather go rather than having one foisted on you. Phone BA as soon as possible to discuss/confirm, and agree what steps need to happen next.0

Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, Canada Avenue?
yes
**Update** (sort of)
so many months ago i posted regarding hotel, BA have been an absolute joke since informing them.
im no closer to finding out whats going to happen regards the hotel, and the booking is still confirmed.
but the big downside now is the prices of hotel rooms are increasing and upon checking the BA website they dont have anything similar in the area for us if they offered us a different hotel.
So basically almost 6 months since i informed BA and they have not done 1 thing to inform us of anything.:mad:0 -
Keep chasing them, presumably not long till your stay now and prices will have spiralled.
Also post on social media, responses often better through Twitter or maybe Facebook than direct.0 -
I think we established this was not British Airways Holidays but BA’s provider of ancillary hotels. Do you have a hotel confirmation voucher? Can you see if it indicates who the hotel was booked via (e.g. Booking.com, Hotelbeds etc)?
I would have hoped that following a hotel closure that the hotel provider would have been a little more proactive by now in offering an alternative. It may now fall to you to chase and prod them now.
Before contacting the hotel provider I would look at other options that might suit you. Be armed with a list of suitable alternatives.
If wishing to stay in the I-Drive area and wanting a unit like the Hawthorn Suites with a kitchenette, next door on Canada Avenue is staySKY Suites I Drive. They might be worth looking at. If not so concerned about the location, perhaps Lake Buena Vista Resort Villagewhich has nice two or three bedroom apartments. We are actually staying there at the moments and I am typing this post from my sunny balcony! We booked this as a package with BAH as got a steal on the price.
Hope you get things sorted out.0
