But can you get the person who spread it punished?

    No, certainly spoken to maybe.

Even in a disciplinary you may end up in a room but with both sides being aired. That was my experience of a colleague who turned out to have some strange fantasies going on. It was quite interesting they felt they had the support of a real old ex colleague from another company I worked at - beauty of social media alone transpired this person had moved on and some time ago so I've no idea what they really were referring to in the end. (Of course discovered regrettably after event)

I chased a company head office today who felt it's wasn't their duty to provide a reference from late 2017 causing numerous issues, I just need them to write dates as it was their choosing to offer work on 1st December of that year - soon got helpful when I said ok let me know where I can send my invoices for lost time as you delay me starting future new work - suddenly there is a policy for local depots to adhere too. Well certainly a 'HR Business Partner' can have a word if they carry on being naughty trying to fob off to Head Office. So glad to make the call and find out for myself in many respects.
  • Even if you do leave due to the toxic environment - you should still make a formal complaint/grievance, so that it is made known to both the management/hr and to those team members that this is an issue. It needs to be brought out into the open, in case it happens to someone else.

The fact that you want the thread deleted, to me, is indicative of you not having the same perspective on things as most people.

Have you had similar issues in other jobs or situations?
  • Maybe they want the thread deleted because they're worried that these people/or workplace will see it
