Swapping cars with partner

Hi all
My wife is currently 6 months pregnant. As my car is a lot bigger and more practical, we plan to swap cars once the baby is here.
Never done this before and wondering how to go about this in regards to insurance.
Currently, she is a named driver on my car.
My wife's insurance is up for renewal now, so am I best insuring it with me as the main driver and her as a named driver? Then doing the same in reverse on my car when the renewal is up?
Or am I overthinking this, as were husband and wife and use both cars anyway?
Thanks in advance

Probably no issue in simply notifying the insurer of the change of main driver0

But might there be an issue during the days or weeks between the two renewals? As the OP will be the main driver on both policies, he will be accumulating no claims discount on two cars at the same time; is that allowed?0 -

Who is main driver is irrelevant to NCD
"Proper" NCD is only awarded to the policyholder irrespective of whether or not the PH is the main driver0 -
Yes

So a named driver always gets any NCD added to their tally if they are the policyholder? That's contrary to what I thought I'd learnt from posts on this board :think:0 -
How NCD is apportioned and by what method is largely down to the individual insurer. Some allocate it to the policyholder only, some to the main driver of the vehicle.
Direct Line allowed named drivers to accrue NCD at one point (they might still do this).
With my previous employer, it was the main driver that built up the NCD. Oddly this was only on their car policy product, their other motor insurance policies, it was the policyholder/vehicle.0 -

Yes in answer to your question "can you accumulate NCD on 2 cars at the same time.
There's no limit to how many separate NCDs you can have. Each policy earns it's policyholder a NCD
Named drivers NCD is not proper NCD
It is a marketing ploy. If you are a named driver on a policy that gives NCD to named drivers then normally you will only be able to use it to take out your own policy with that insurer.0 -

The policy holder gets the NCD due whether they are the the main driver or the named driver.0 -

No
The policy holder gets the Proper NCD!
(You seem to misunderstand - the "policyholder" is a separate person to the named driver(s)!)0 -
