buying new car help

I have selected a new car model to buy soon. I have had quotes from Carwow and What car website.

Dealer 1 about 90 miles away price is £22,000.
Dealer 2 10miles away price is 22,500 - They will not match or improve on this.

I am going to visit another dealer tomorrow.

Any advice on how to haggle get a dealer to price beat? Or am I better off waiting till end of the month?

How many times is too much to visit and email the same dealer for a price, test drive?

thanks

Don't tell dealer 2 where you live. Show dealer 2 dealer 1's quote and ask them to match it.

    ^^^^^^^^^^

And if the above doesn't work, look at all the threads on here where people have had some issues with cars they have bought from further away and buy from the most local, all other things being equal.

It is 2.2% more expensive. That is starting to get in to the realms of worth it to deal with a local dealer. Perhaps the local dealer just doesn't have the volume of sales to offer you a better price.

Who is going to service it? Assuming the local dealer then it maybe £500 well spent.

Unless it is still under manufacturer's warranty so any faults can be fixed by the local main dealers, or considerably cheaper I'd buy close to home.

You buy where it is cheapest and then have it serviced nearer to home at a main dealer.

Not everybody wants to pay main dealer prices for servicing. Plus what about after care when something goes wrong?

80 miles is a lot to travel to pick up a new car - how will you get there?

In the best case scenario (you part exing a car) it's still a 160 mile round trip. Or what, train and taxi? You may find that a significant chunk of your 500 pound saving is lost just going to get the car.

For £500, I'd just go local. Try and haggle a bit extra with the car (floor mats, full tank of fuel, GAP insurance etc) but I wouldn't walk away if they refused.

I have used Carwow twice and the prices have seemed to be the dealer's best price. Last month I got just over £1000 on a small £14000 car but chose local rather than getting a few hundred more from 100 miles away. I also got Carwow prices for two other similar make cars just to see what size discount were on offer for comparison purposes. The best for 4 dealers for one of these makes was only £600.
Yes if you can get GAP and insurance for below market prices then by all means ask the dealer for these but do your homework first as I think you will find both are available online for a lot less than the dealer's prices.

The Carwow or Whatcar prices you get offered are not intended to be negotiable. They are usually the "lowest price they will offer". The idea is to stop haggling and cut to the chase. Carwow get a cut and dealers use it as a way to push cars out - you'll find if they are on quota they will give you a high offer or no offer at all.

I have used Carwow, approached local dealers direct but the cheapest quote was via CarFile. Came from main dealer about 150ml away, car delivered on a trailer and balance of payment only made after delivery.
