QUOTE=KxMx;75887263]On the newer versions of Android you can dig deep and restrict individual permissions for each app.

Most of the time my apps function just fine after I've done this.[/QUOTE]

When I (partially) installed the app the permissions were set, no option to change allow as I've seen on other apps I've installed. Only option was allow all or cancel install.

I just installed the app on my iPhone and it didn't ask for any access to my data.

Could it be a feature of the operating system rather than the app? If so I can't see how Carling can be criticised.

No experience of iphone. Does iphone ask permission for any app or just do it?

How do you think the scammers that send the "have been in an accident" or the "Claim your ppi back now" get the phone numbers?

Usually by using automated dialers to dial every number in every known number range.

Why limit yourself to only the numbers that have been harvested by marketers?

If it wants to access anything it always asks.

I was speaking of doing this once the app is installed through the phones menu, rather than the app itself. I should have been clearer :)

On my Samsung (Android 8) this is the path, Settings- Apps- Tap three dots- Select App- Permissions- toggle on or off.

From your post I'm not sure if this is want you meant.

Ah, another rather frivolous use of the word 'scam' :D

Thanks. A bit after the event though when the app is installed. Other apps I have installed have usually only requested features they obviously need and/or AFAIR have the option to toggle to off specific features.

Carling's motive is still unexplained despite all the posts. If the free glass is designed to promote beer sales why mandate that you have to install the app? You rule out customers without a smart phone or those without any spare memory on their smart phone to install another app. Why are they restricting the offer unless the purpose is not to directly promote beer, but rather to garner data?

Maybe to tie in with the "new, improved" Carling to increase sales? Then you'll keep getting reminders and so-called special offers and vouchers for Carling.
