That’s what they’ve declined us on. We are still awaiting the official letter which details the rationale.

He had no other symptoms ie eye pain weakness etc.

We declared stress and anxiety and other more major declarations on the questionnaire and it was purely those two bouts which they are saying would of made him uninsurable had they known about them. Which I don’t believe to be true given the advice the GP gave and no further investigations needed and he NEVER returned to GP regarding this as it never occurred again

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you. It seems very unlikely, especially without any other associated conditions AND the fact that the GP had discharged him from further reviews or follow ups.

Are you able to disclose the insurer, or at least confirm if they are an insurer which is still open to accepting new applications?

Is your "appeal" worded that way rather than a "complaint"?

If not do belt and braces now and ensure you have "complained".

Once you get a response to this complaint (about rejection, not the time taken!) you can escalate to the FOS.

But bear in mind if the FOS don't uphold your complaint then your only other option would be Court, and involve you in expense unless you win in Court

I'd have been surprised if the insurer would have declined critical illness due to 2 bouts of vertigo in isolation

I agree unless they went for a lowest cost provider known to never pay out on technicalities. Which is never worth going for on any insurance type unless you want to take the risk! (eg maybe on car insuurance).
  • Thanks

We are currently in the process of going through complaint about rejection but have yet to receive our full letter of explanation

It is one of the big insurance companies so not a little back street one, but was taken out through a broker who have made mistakes. We now have to make a complaint to them regarding this. (Luckily we have proof about at least two mistakes in writing) this whole thing is a complete mess.

Apart from doing what I’m doing is there anyone else that I can go to for advice or help that won’t be as emotionally involved

Complaining about a broker follows the same procedure as complaints about an insurer as set out in #5 above.

Wait and see the outcome of these complaints - then if you are still not happy then you will need to consider legal action as that is your option then - which could be stressful too as you will be involved in costs which you will only be able to recover if you win in court
