I do feel sorry for those who will eventually return to 12 or 13 hour days including horrendous commuting once this all blows over. I only live a mile from work, but I can do 95% of everything I do at work at home. I keep hoping that work life in general for the wider population will change with companies having discovered that working from home is eminently possible for a large proportion of time.

I agree commuting is utterly horrendous. I really hope that this is a watershed moment for the UK and many more people begin to see commuting for what it is. An utter waste of time and for a large part of the population not essential.
With regards to the work life balance I also hope this is a similar turning point. I've always thought that there was much more to life than work, just what a new balance will look like for me isn't clear yet but I don't think I can continue with 12-13 hour days very much longer.

I was already a homeworker and Mr Mally slogged to work with an hour in traffic each way every day. The first week of lockdown he was really miserable but he seems to have got the hang of it now and we are definitely eating more meals together as a family and at a sensible time. Some of his direct reports live just up the road so I am hoping that he will realise that he can wfh sometimes and still do face to face where it matters, once we get back out there.
